Healthy Toilets for East Manggarai

Healthy Toilets for East Manggarai

It's hard to believe, but in 2025, many villages in Indonesia still lack access to proper toilets. In fact, over half the families in East Manggarai, Flores, don't have private toilets. This means they have to rely on neighbours or walk long distances just to use the loo or bathe.

This isn't because people don't want to live healthily. For many, with their limited incomes, a toilet is seen as a "luxury" they simply can't afford. As a direct result of these unhygienic conditions, around 11% of children in the area regularly suffer from diarrhoea, which impacts their growth and development.

We Need Your Help: Providing Toilets for a Healthier Future

More than 1,000 toilets are needed across Flores Island. Wahana Visi Indonesia is working with partners to gradually meet this vital need. Our first phase aims to provide 50 toilets in East Manggarai. Your donations will support a range of activities, including:

  • Raising awareness about the importance of sanitation and healthy toilets.
  • Providing materials and training for building 'goose-neck' toilets.
  • Constructing toilets and clean water facilities alongside the community.

We firmly believe that no child should grow up in an environment that puts their health at risk. By giving families access to proper toilets, we're giving them the right to a healthy life and a brighter future.
