Jevin is in The Journey for Better Future

Jevin is a child who has experienced the positive impact of Wahana Visi Indonesia's (WVI) support in East Manggarai Regency. He's been actively involved in various children's activities facilitated by WVI since primary school, and continues to be now that he's in high school. Previously, he faced significant challenges, both at school and within himself. At school, he was afraid to learn, fearing physical punishment from teachers if he didn't complete his assignments. This fear diminished his enthusiasm for learning and made Jevin less confident.
However, everything began to change when WVI entered Jevin's life. Through their education program at his school at the time, WVI, alongside the government, introduced the "Lonto Leok" concept, involving both students and educators. As part of the Lonto Leok character education concept, his school was asked to create rules and agreements together. With these shared rules, Jevin and his friends proposed that students should not be physically punished for breaking rules, but instead be given punishments that benefit the school environment, such as picking up rubbish or cleaning the toilet or school grounds. "This created a safer and more supportive learning atmosphere. Additionally, there was another program, the Program Organisasi Penggerak, which used fun and meaningful learning methods to increase student’s motivation in class," he explained.
Outside of school, Jevin participated in WVI-supported children's group activities. There, he attended public speaking training which greatly helped boost his self-confidence. He also got involved in sanitation ambassador activities, learning about the pillars of STBM (Community-Led Total Sanitation), and contributing to environmental cleanliness campaigns in his village.
"Slowly, I felt a big change in my life. My fear of school disappeared, and I started to feel comfortable and confident in learning. Now, I am very enthusiastic and active both in school activities and in the village environment," he recounted. The public speaking training helped Jevin grow into a confident boy who could appear in public as an MC or moderator for various school events. As a sanitation ambassador, he felt empowered because he could educate others about the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene.
Jevin's participation in these various activities not only enhanced his skills and sense of responsibility but also gave him the opportunity to become an agent of change among children and the village community. "Now, I look to the future with full optimism. I am confident that I can face any challenge, and I have begun my journey towards a better future," he concluded.
