Wahana Visi Indonesia Receives Two Awards in Early 2025

In the first half of 2025, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) received two awards: one from the Papua Province Education Quality Assurance Agency (BPMP Papua Province) for the education sector, and another from the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta for the environmental sector. WVI extends its sincere gratitude for the awards and hopes to continue its good efforts for the well-being of Indonesian children. WVI dedicates these awards to the children, communities, and partners who have played a significant role in improving the quality of children's education in Papua, and in realising a more environmentally friendly Jakarta Province.
WVI's Commitment to Children's Education in Papua
Wahana Visi Indonesia has undertaken collaborative work to continuously improve the quality of education accessible to children in Papua. Currently, WVI is implementing programmes in the education sector for the Sentani, Sarmi, Central Highlands, Asmat, and Biak areas. Various activities are carried out through partnerships with stakeholders at the village to district levels, community groups, faith-based organisations, traditional leaders, and also educators in schools. The focus of WVI's education programme in Papua is to improve the literacy skills of primary school-aged children.
Based on its experience in implementing education programmes in various contexts, WVI employs a child literacy improvement approach that is not only based in formal institutions, namely schools, but also within families and communities. WVI's great hope is to realise villages in Papua as Literacy Villages. This means that a village or hamlet where children live becomes a location rich in literacy. Children can read at home, accompanied by parents; children can read in public facilities owned by the village; children can read in a place called a Reading House; and children also receive quality literacy education in schools with the guidance of teachers. This holistic approach is expected to be an effective and efficient way to improve the literacy skills of children in Papua.
For these good efforts, BPMP Papua Province presented an award to Wahana Visi Indonesia as one of the organisations contributing to improving the quality of education in Papua. This award was received in February 2025, for the implementation period in 2024.
Impactful Actions for a Green and Sustainable Jakarta
The Derap Kerjasama Jakarta (DKJ) Awards are an award event organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government for businesses and foundations that have made a real contribution to the city. This event also commemorates the 498th anniversary of DKI Jakarta. In July 2025, after a rigorous selection process, Wahana Visi Indonesia received an award in the Environmental sector with the title "Increasing Social Accountability in Improving Community-Based Waste Management Services." The award was presented by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, accompanied by the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno.
Governor Pramono hopes that the DKJ Award can boost the spirits of businesses and foundations in implementing CSR programmes that support sustainable development in Jakarta.
"We hope that the strategic partnerships and professional relationships that have been established so far can also continue, and can trigger positive changes, such as the development of innovations and the replication of good practices that can be felt by the people of Jakarta," explained Governor Pramono.
For Wahana Visi Indonesia, this award is a manifestation of its commitment, hard work, and the strong synergy between the government, private businesses, and the community in realising a global-minded Jakarta by involving the community as agents of change. Through the PHINLA programme (Phase II), increased social accountability is expected to change community behaviour in waste management, through education, awareness, and collective action.
